Same Old, Same Old

The alarm on my watch triggers at 6 a.m. on Tuesday. I wake up, get my clothes on, and quietly make a combination of Frosted Shredded Wheat and Cheerios for breakfast.

Around 7:15, I drive to the Linn-Benton campus with Phineas and Ferb music playing in the background. Because nothing is better than starting a new day with “Today Is Gonna Be a Great Day.”

I reach the campus at 7:45 and arrive near the writing classroom 15 minutes later. Same old, same old day. As I wait, my teacher shows up and unlocks the door to the classroom and I enter the room along with her and perhaps others.

While we wait for the class to officially begin at 8:30, we discuss random topics like driving to campus or the weather. But then I hear that there was a coronavirus case in Lebanon.

“Huh, that’s where I live,” I thought.

Then I hear where EXACTLY it was. It was in the Lebanon Veterans Home.

And guess who just happened to volunteer there every Friday.

The irony that out of all the places to hit, it happened to be the one place I frequently went to was funny to me. Of course, I couldn’t volunteer there anymore after the incident since it is now in lock-down.

Everything was basically the same afterward though. I went to my other classes, ate in the cafeteria, went home, and played “Minecraft” or “Halo 2.”

The alarm on my watch triggers at 6 a.m. It is my school break and quarantine has kicked in. I just ignore the alarm and sleep in.

Around 8:30, I am greeted by the sound of everyone waking up. I decide to get up and eat a combination of Frosted Shredded Wheat and Cheerios for breakfast. Afterward, I play some “Minecraft'' on my computer.

At 10, I help my five younger brothers with schoolwork while my parents get other work done.

As I assist my younger brothers, I multi-task by playing “Animal Crossing” at the same time. Same old, same old. We take a break at 11 and then finish up half an hour later.

After having lunch at 1 p.m., I listen to my brothers play the piano and then just play video games for the rest of the day since my work is done.

Overall, quarantine hasn’t necessarily affected me that much during the break. The only major change was my church services had to be online. On Sunday, my family gathered around at 10 or 11 a.m. and watched a recorded service by my grandfather from around 17 years ago.

The alarm on my watch triggers at 6 a.m. on Monday. A new term has begun with quarantine in full swing. I get up and play some more “Animal Crossing.”

At 8:30, my parents wake up and breakfast begins. I proceed to eat ... you know what I am eating by now.

At 10, school begins and I help my younger brothers with school while playing more “Animal Crossing.” We take a break at 11 and I set up my Chromebook for my Zoom class at 12:30.

From 1 to 1:50, I have my class and lunch afterward. After getting some work done, I start doing some yoga from 5 to 6 and fool around afterward.

As you can see, despite quarantine limiting me to my home, everything is still quite predictable.

Everything is the same old, same old.

Ah, my watch is ringing.

Welp, time to get up.

See ya later.
